Structure Fire - 10/24/08 - Flora Vista, NM

On October 24, 2008 at approximately 11:45 a.m., San Juan County Fire Units were clearing from a report of a vehicle fire in the 8000 block of Highway 516 when Fire Marshal Chris Cardin (CF-3), seeing a large column of smoke, came up on the dispatch frequency and asked if a burn permit had been issued in the area of County Road 3450 in Flora Vista. Dispatch reported back that they were just getting reports of a structure fire on County Road 3451. San Juan County Fire Districts #2 (Flora Vista), #8 (Hart Valley), and #3 (Cedar Hill) were dispatched to 85 County Road 3451 for a mobile home on fire.

Fire Marshal Cardin and Training Captain Chris Shay (CF-5) had arrived on-scene shortly after the dispatch and reported that they had a fully-involved single-wide mobile home, and that the roof had collapsed. It appeared that the mobile home was abandoned and unoccupied. Due to the lack of exposures, mutual aid companies were returned and the defensive fire attack was handled by two engines and a tanker from Fire District #2. The fire was controlled shortly after the arrival of Fire District #2, and the cause is under investigation by the County Fire Marshal’s Office.
