SFFD Museum - Santa Fe, NM

What was the smallest and oldest functioning fire station in Santa Fe, NM has been transformed into a museum about the city’s firefighting history. As the firefighters staffing Station 3 on Cerrillos Road moved into their new station at Ashbaugh Park, antique fire equipment moved into the old building. The collection so far includes such items as a 19th-century wooden hose cart that firefighters pulled by hand to fire scenes; old rubberized turn-out gear; and leather helmets from the 1940s.

The display also contains a 1934 American LaFrance pumper. It was one of only 10 made by the manufacturer that year and still carries its original paint and gold leaf. The station also features a glass case of artifacts, which holds portraits of firefighters from the Wheeler family, who helped found the Santa Fe Fire Department and have offered nearly 140 years of service.
