Drowning/Recovery Operation - 03/23/12 - Navajo Dam, NM

On March 23rd, 2012 at 17:44 hours San Juan County Fire District 10 units and San Juan Regional Medical Center Paramedics were dispatched to the area of the 17 mile marker on New Mexico Highway 511 on a report of a drowning. The incident occurred at the end of a dirt road that accessed an area of rock cliffs above Navajo Lake. As additional information started to come in from dispatch, the San Juan County Fire and New Mexico State Police Rescue/Recovery Divers were notified to respond. The Dive Team was requested to assemble at the Navajo Lake Marina. Dive Team members Tom Miller and Duane Bair were shuttled to the marina by the San Juan County Sheriff’s helicopter, “Seven - San Juan.” The divers were taken the area where the victim was last seen by New Mexico State Park’s Ranger Boats. Due to the hour and loss of daylight, the search/recovery operation was suspended until the next day.
