Structure Fire - 06/04/12 - Bloomfield, NM


 


 

On June 4th, 2012, at approximately 14:30 hours, Bloomfield, New Mexico firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 427 North Island Street. Initial dispatch information indicated that an explosion occurred in a detached garage/shed at that location. While enroute, BFD Engine #1 reported a large column of smoke coming from that location.

Units arrived to find a fully involved garage, with a vehicle inside. The fire had extended to the house, with fire showing from the Charlie/Delta corner of the dwelling. The fire also damaged another automobile parked next to the garage, as well as a recreational vehicle parked in the neighboring driveway. Firefighters knocked down the fire on the home’s exterior and went to work on the garage. Mutual aid was requested from the San Juan County Fire Department.

An Engine from SJCFD District #2 (Flora Vista) and a Water Tender from District #9 (Sullivan Road) operated at the scene. BFD units had the bulk of the fire knocked down shortly after companies arrived. The interior of the house was checked for extension as the remains of the garage and vehicles were overhauled. The origin and cause of the fire is being investigated by the BFD.
