Structure Fire - 12/27/14 - Farmington, NM

On December 27th, 2014 at 10:15 hours, I just walked in Farmington Fire Department’s Station #5 to have a cup of firehouse coffee with Battalion Chief Andy Ebner when units were dispatched to 1129 Acoma Place for a report of a fire in the residence. I grabbed my camera bag and joined Chief Ebner in his response. We arrived right behind Engine Company #5 to find light smoke coming from a 1-story, single family dwelling.

Along with Engine Company #5 and Battalion #1, Engine Company #1, Engine Company #4, Ladder Company #1, and Ladder Company #2 were assigned on the initial dispatch. Engine Company #5 stretched a 1.75” line through the front door on the “Alpha” side of the home, while Engine Company #4 stretched an additional 1.75” line to the “Charlie” side of the structure. The cause of the smoke turned out to be a rug that had been placed over the grate of a floor furnace.

The rug was removed from the house as Ladder Company #2 check for, and located, very minor extension to the hardwood floor. The crawl spaced was also examined, and no fire damage was found. The building was vented, and units picked up and returned to quarters within the hour. Congratulations to Battalion Chief Ebner on his first solo incident since his promotion (your father would be proud).
