MYSTERY SOLVED! I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Newark Fire Department Battalion Chief Joe Ryan (BC1 – Tour 1 – Retired) for the following information. This fire occurred on October 11th, 1989 at 15:36 hours. The incident went to a Second Alarm and the fire gutted a vacant, one story 40 X 150 brick church at 135-37 16th Avenue at South 9th Street. Box 4314 was struck for this fire and Tour 3 worked the incident. Joe Ryan was the Captain of 11 Engine at the time, Battalion Chief Rich Meeker and Deputy Chief Ed Dunn can be seen in the photos.
