INDIANAPOLIS, IN FIRE DEPARTMENT
|
I was in Indianapolis, Indiana from April 6th to April 13th, 2008 for the 80th Annual Fire Department Instructors Conference. Between the educational offerings and the world’s largest fire trade show I managed to squeeze in some buffing activities.

Here is an IFD Engine Company passing by the Indianapolis Convention Center. I was walking into the Convention Center when Engine 18 was coming down the street on the way to an emergency incident. I managed to take a few shots as they passed by.

On April 12th, 2008 at approximately 1300 hours the Indianapolis Fire Department was dispatched to 3410 East 20th Street on a report of a house on fire. Units arrived just west of the intersection of North Olney Street and East 20th Street to find a well-involved 1 story duplex. The bulk of the fire was knocked down by the time I arrived on the scene.

Fire Station #12, located at 339 N. Sherman Drive, was built in 1915 for the Indianapolis Fire Department. It originally housed a horse drawn steam engine and horse drawn hose wagon. The Indianapolis Fire Department generously decided to allow the Indianapolis Fire Buffs (IFB) use of the building to house their canteen, which is provided by the Salvation Army. In addition to housing the canteen, one of IFB's antique fire apparatus is quartered there.
