Structure Fire - 06/14/08 - Bloomfield, NM

Shortly past 23:00 hours on June 14th, 2008 the Bloomfield Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 400 block of North 4th Street. Units arrived to find smoke showing from a double wide mobile home at that location. Further investigation revealed that the fire was located in the attic space of the home.

Firefighters deployed a 1 ¾ inch attack line into the interior and aggressively opened up the attic space from below with pike poles. Once the attic space was exposed, interior crews made short work of the fire. A gas-fire Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan was also utilized to assist with ventilation.

The fire was caused by a barbeque that had been placed next to the “B” side of the home. Flames had traveled up the combustible exterior siding and entered the attic space at the eves. While the fire had penetrated the roof in one area, the efforts of the Bloomfield Firefighters kept the damage contained to one side of the attic. San Juan County Fire District 9 also responded on a mutual aid request.
